Tov Rose demonstrates a peculiar tone-deafnesss when it comes to how he handles the name of the L-RD in this so-called "New Messianic" translation of the haB'rit haChadesha (New Covenant writings), and I'm disappointed that he's pulled the wool over the eyes of the normally-discerning messianic rabbi Ed Rothman. The biggest and most frequent error is in the rendering of the name of God. This is a particularly offensive issue because Hebrew scribes have historically been especially careful around this issue. It is scribal tradition that causes them to render God's most sacred name...represented in Hebrew by the letters yod-hey-vav-hey by merely rendering a double yod in Torah scrolls. Traditionally, this would cause a reader to either use the word "Adonai" or maybe even "haShem" which is a transliteration of the Hebrew expression, "The Name" but Rose is far more careless here, usually rendering the name as Jehovah at nearly every opportunity. Not only is this mistaken but it is offensive to nearly all Jews and most real Messianics. Rose also proceeds from a flawed premise of a conspiratorial bent: that other translations are flawed because they allegedly "leave out" too many words...and then he proceeds to inject too many words that were never originally present: the definition of biblical names every single time they appear. Unfortunately this feature is also flawed by a poorly done find/replace word search... for example, it rightly renders the name Ya'akov as "grabs the heel of" but somehow heel is misspelled as "heal" throughout. So Ya'akov appears as "grabs the heal of." That is merely one such example of Rose's textual careleasness...one that might be more relatable to a general Christian audience than the haShem/Adonai/Jehovah issue. Frankly this translation in its current form is too riddled with errors to be acceptable to Christians or Jews, let alone the Messianic audience it lays claim to. I'm not even sure it would be acceptable to a Two-House audience in its current form. Avoid this error-filled book. I recommend the imperfect but far more responsible Tree of Life teanslation... or at least Daniel Stern's Complete Jewish Bible as far more reliable alternatives to Tov Rose's work here. Sorry.
I cannot read the original languages, as a result I love reading various translations to see how scholars translate things. This translation has been a blessing in gaining insight on a Jewish perspective of the New Testament and I whole heartedly recommend reading this and other translations side-by-side. :)
This is a really great version of the Bible. It is sort of like the Amplified Bible, due to giving Greek and English names and definitions in parentheses.
