Beautiful book. The photos are wonderful and the poetry, thoughts and information enlightening.
This book is so pretty. Its NOT about gardening, growing lotus flowers, or information on different lotus species.What this book is, is a small treasure of beautiful wisdom from ancient Buddhist poetry, Zen masters, and text from Buddhist scriptures. LOVELY crisp clear photos of this marvelous flower, the Lotus. The appendix has some history about the lotus, and about the the usage of it in poetry and scriptures and comparisons to human life. So there is some reading material as well. Its a somewhat thin book, its long lengthwise and shorter in height. But whats inside is another world.I got this given to me while I was in the hospital after giving birth to my child. It helped me realise that this very soul, my baby WAS like a lotus flower, gently unfolding to expose the beauty of his soul to the world.The quotes are about a deeper dimention of this amazing flower that grows from muck and mud and flourishes in the dirtiest of ponds.The lotus flower is a lot like life. Hence its usage in so much Hindu and Buddhist sutras and stories.Here is my one of my favorite poems from the book:When I see the pondWhere the lotus is bloomingI harbor faith inA dewdrop on the petalEven in this muddy world--ShotetsuI would highly recommend this book to an expecting mother, someone you love, your mother or grandmother or aunt. Its truly a beautiful gift book.I also would recommend you giving yourself a gift with this book. For you, are the greatest lotus of all.Namaste
